| Puerto Rico's minimum wage is between $3.61 and $5.15 per hour based on a 40 hour workweek. If an employee works on the statutory rest day or over 40 hours per workweek, double time pay is required. Also, those employers covered by the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act are subject only to the Federal minimum wage and all applicable regulations. Those not covered must have a minimum wage of at least 70 percent the Federal minimum wage or the applicable mandatory decree rate, whichever is higher. This can be waived if an employer can prove to the Secretary of Labor and Human Resources that implementation of the 70 percent rate would substantially reduce employment at that business.
